What The Fellas Say

Blow me away like a baby seagull feather on an Atlantic summer breeze! This “light” wine (less than 10.5%) is surprisingly scrumptious and full of verve like a fresh Setubal oyster with a drop of red wine vinegar.

What The Sommelier Says

A light white wine with low alcohol content, typical of the Lisbon region. Lime green colour, with slight almond notes followed by primary fruit freshness – apple and grapefruit. Ample in the mouth and with some salinity. Manages to achieve volume and acidity, and the finish is surprisingly silky and balanced.

Pairs well with…

…itself as a refresher on a hot day or anything from the sea – fish or shellfish – like gooseneck barnacles or a grilled red snapper; also, try with salad, like a baby arugula and shaved pecorino salad.

About The Winemakers

Quinta Várzea da Pedra is a family estate located in Bombarral, in Portugal’s western region. Since 1910, the family has been producing Pêra-Rocha pears, grapes, and wine, and at one point, also raised cattle and produced cow’s milk. In 2015, the fourth generation of the family renovated the winery and began bottling part of the production, focusing on quality and character. The vineyards, planted in clay-limestone soils, are influenced by the mesoclimate created by the Atlantic Ocean’s sea breeze, the Lagoa de Óbidos, and the nearby Serra do Montejunto. In their winery, they craft wines that reflect the authenticity of what they harvest, allowing the terroir to shine through with wines that display intense freshness, a pleasant minerality, and a marked acidity. These wines are defined by a strong identity, a unique palate profile, and promising aging potential, expressing the essence of the region and the character of DOC Óbidos wines. “Here, old traditions are recreated with an eye toward the future. Stories, emotions, and sensations are lived and shared in every drop of wine.”
