What The Fellas Say

This one struts in like The Stranglers in ’77—sharp suit, scuffed boots, keys growling. No permission asked. Nose hits with pine forest after rain, torn herbs, cherry and wild berries. All tight. All wired. Then the bass drops with black plum and dark chocolate on the backbeat. Tannins keep time like a kick drum. Fruit and spice come in riffs—layered, raw, never slick. Punk with a jazz education. Pair with roast meat, grilled aubergine, or anything served loud.

What The Sommelier Says

On the nose, it has notes of aromatic herbs, pine needles and wild berries. On the palate, it has wild berries, black plum, with very present tannins, having a long and persistent finish.

Pairs well with…

Ideal accompaniments include grilled steaks, slow-cooked lamb, and rich stews like cozido à portuguesa. The wine’s structure and depth also complement strong cheeses such as aged São Jorge or cured Manchego. For a vegetarian option, try it with mushroom-based dishes or smoky roasted vegetables. Its layered profile can even stand up to dark chocolate with spices or dried fruit.

About The Winemakers

This is a personal project by winemaker João Cabral de Almeida, producing wines in the Douro, Dão, and Vinho Verde regions. Under the motto “Wines with a sense of place,” the project focuses on creating wines that faithfully express their place of origin and the grape varieties used. João’s approach to winemaking is straightforward: “We spend the entire year focused on producing the best grapes. Then, in the winery, we aim to intervene as little as possible to let Nature express itself to the fullest.”

Region: Douro

Region: Douro

The wines of the Douro Valley are known for their depth, complexity, and aging potential. The soil is predominantly schist, a type of metamorphic rock that retains heat and helps to ripen the grapes. The region’s unique terroir, combined with the use of indigenous grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques, create wines that are rich, complex, and full of character.
