What The Fellas Say

Opening night. Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”.The lights dim, the conductor lifts his baton. A flute darts in—bright and playful, all fresh citrus and cool breeze. The oboe follows with a touch of tropical warmth, while the strings shimmer softly underneath, adding minerality and poise. Then the clarinet, smooth and round, and the bassoon grounding it all with a quiet, resonant depth. It’s Peter and the Wolf in a bottle: each voice distinct, yet blending perfectly into something lively, elegant and complete. Fresh pineapple and white peach at the top, mineral notes running through, and a subtle undertone of toast and spice carrying the melody to a long, graceful finish.

What The Sommelier Says

On the nose, it reveals restrained, delicate, and elegant mineral notes, with a light tropicality and perfectly integrated toasted nuances. On the palate, it displays identity and personality, maintaining a fresh, mineral character throughout. With a bright acidity and good tension, it leads to a long, balanced, and very harmonious tasting.

Pairs well with…

…a fresh grouper baked to perfection with lemon and a hint of rosemary, fettuccine with black truffle cream sauce or a Thai coconut chicken curry.

About The Winemakers

The history of Herdade da Amada stretches back several centuries. Historical records from the 17th century show it was primarily an agricultural estate, with a vegetable garden and a watermill. The 19th century was especially significant, marked by the planting of mulberry trees to support silk farming in Portugal. Alongside this, the estate continued to cultivate orchards and vineyards. In 2018, Herdade da Amada was revitalized by the Marvanejo Family, who embraced its legacy by planting 14 hectares of vineyard, restoring the land’s noble agricultural heritage.
