What The Fellas Say

This organic, biodynamic wine, is deep and rich and full of fruit. It’s like licking the last bits of homemade cherry jam off an earthenware plate on a hot summer day. It’s lingering pipe tobacco in a farm kitchen while plums sit stewing in a giant copper pot. It’s all the memories stored in these 100 year old vines. It’s the sun coming up over the Serra de São Mamede, gifting a little warmth and light on the winter solstice.

What The Sommelier Says

Dark, almost black, purple colour. Complex nose of wood, leather and red fruits. Excellent balance and nice full body; dry and fresh with smooth cherry, blackberry, cassis and earth.

Pairs well with…

…elegance, like a grilled medium-rare filet mignon with horseradish on the side, or dressed, roast pheasant.

About The Winemakers

Cabeças do Reguengo is a family-owned winery in Alto Altentejo producing biodynamic wines. Their terroir, tucked under the lower slopes of the Serra, is geographically distinct from the usual Alentejo climate and landscape, and their wines are ALL field blend from century-old or antique vineyards (75+), which makes for some fascinating, complex wines, even at entry level. The viticulture is free of chemicals and dedicated to restoring traditional farming systems, including grafting onto dead or old vines to retain and revive the original grapevine stock – expensive, bold and risky, but that’s the only way to fully restore the vineyard that makes the wines they love so much.
