What The Fellas Say

Like a gaggle of wisened old men on a shady bench in the town square, these old vines may be gnarled and twisted and stubborn but they sure can pack a punch inside their little old grapes. There’s a hundred years of stories in there. A hundred years of sunrises and sunsets, rain storms and snow storms, heartache and melodrama. Think of that when you pour this in your glass. Think of it when you swirl it around and watch those lazy old legs caress the curve of the glass. Think on it as you breathe in the complex layers of red berries and pepper and as you take your first taste of plum and cherry and tobacco and spice.

What The Sommelier Says

Vibrant ruby colour with a delicate nose of fresh red berries, layers of spice, earthiness and a hint of minerality. On the palate, an elegant balance of red berry and spice, with a refreshing acidity and finely woven tannins, hinting at a good aging potential. The finish is persistent and refined.

Pairs well with…

…arroz de pato, carne de porco alentejana, wid mushroom risotto.

About The Winemakers

Cabeças do Reguengo is a family-owned winery in Alto Altentejo producing biodynamic wines. Their terroir, tucked under the lower slopes of the Serra, is geographically distinct from the usual Alentejo climate and landscape. Their wines are ALL from century-old or antique vineyards (75+) and are ALL field blend, which makes for some fascinating, complex wines, even at entry level. Their viticulture is free of chemicals and dedicated to restoring traditional farming systems, including grafting onto dead or old vines to retain and revive the original grapevine stock – expensive, bold and risky, but that’s the only way to fully restore the vineyard that makes the wines they love so much.
