If you took an orchard of pear and apple trees and bottled it in an earthenware jug, and didn’t fuss too much, maybe threw in a lemon tree, a bushel of limes, a few large river rocks, then you might land somewhere in the vicinity of this puncy, peachy, fresh and juicy natural wine from the Duckman (aka. Maria Pato).
What The Sommelier Says
Cloudy pear-coloured pet nat wine. Notes of tree fruit, citrus, melon and mango, with hints of earth and barnyard. Lightly effervescent on the palette, with light sugar, medium acidity, and decent finish.
Pairs well with…
…a nice fatty fish dripping in lemon and melted butter, a plate of old gouda with some sourdough bread dipped in spicy olive oil, or just served up as an aperitif.

Region: Bairrada
Region: Bairrada
Bairrada produces wines with high acidity and tannins, often aged in oak barrels to soften the tannins and develop complex flavors. The region’s soil is predominantly clay and limestone, which helps to retain moisture and gives the wines a distinct minerality.
