A gentle blast off with a tasty, toasty set of bubbles from enologist Anibal Coutinho (aka. The Astronaut). This launch is a crowd pleaser, a classic Baga espumante from Bairrada, packed with flavour but set within a fine, fizzy mousse.
What The Sommelier Says
Light peach colour, fine fizzy mousse and light notes of red fruit and citrus with hints of brioche. Long, fresh, mouth-watering. An all-terrain vehicle to happiness for any occasion.
Pairs well with…
…smoked salmon, pasteis de bacalhau, leitão da bairrada.
About The Winemakers
Aníbal Coutinho’s Astronauta Wines is a pioneering project that combines his love for travel with his expertise in winemaking. The concept involves producing wines in different countries, each crafted with a deep understanding of the local wine culture and grape varieties. Coutinho started the project in Portugal and South Africa, creating wines that showcase the most emblematic grapes of these regions—Touriga Nacional and Arinto from Portugal, and Chenin Blanc and Pinotage from South Africa. The project was first presented at the ProWein 2011 trade fair in Germany.

Region: Bairrada
Region: Bairrada
Bairrada produces wines with high acidity and tannins, often aged in oak barrels to soften the tannins and develop complex flavors. The region’s soil is predominantly clay and limestone, which helps to retain moisture and gives the wines a distinct minerality.
