What The Fellas Say

What do you do with a grape that was called ‘trousseau’ (bridal gift) in its home town, then moved to the Iberian Peninsula and got called ‘bastardo’ (illegitimate)? Some wedding present! ;-) Well, in the Dão they know just what to do with it and Carlos Lucas paints with a masterly brush. This wine is expressive and forward but gentle at the same time. It’s finely poised with a flurry of wild berries and red fruits, and a wee sprinkle of coffee, caramel and smoky tannins presented on a silver platter of bright acidity.

What The Sommelier Says

Early maturation and a pale ruby colour. This wine is characterized by aroma of wild fruits, balsamic and with some notes of tobacco. Delicate with an acidity in harmony with the elegance presented in each test. A smooth wine, with a persistent but light aftertaste.

Pairs well with…

…something from deep in the heart of Portugal, an alheira de mirandela, or a slow roast, balsamic marinated pork shoulder.
