What The Fellas Say

A mischievous little wine – like getting a love letter from Lord Byron when your husband’s looking over your shoulder. It’s got a nose like a stewing pot of black fruit and plums, but fills the mouth with the dust and spice and heat of an Alentejo summer.

What The Sommelier Says

Deep purple in the glass, opens with ripe dark fruit, a fresh minty lift, and notes of floral, black plum and black pepper. On the palate, dense with structure and depth, good energy through the middle, with black fruit and spice carrying the wine forward. The finish is persistent, oaky and warm.

Pairs well with…

…a slow-braised wild boar ragù over pappardelle, a salt-crusted leg of lamb with rosemary, a wedge of aged Serra da Estrela cheese or a dark chocolate and chilli tart.

About The Winemakers

Herdade da Candeeira is one of the oldest properties in the Serra d’Ossa area, in the municipality of Redondo. In 2014, Grupo Parras acquired the 180-hectare estate, around 70 hectares of which are planted with vines, and invested in a modern winery for processing its own fruit. The project combines old regional heritage with a modern reinterpretation of Portuguese grapes, framed by cork oaks and the Alentejo landscape.
