You’re standing in a large white-walled art gallery. Before you is a singular oil painting – a brightly-lit, surreal Quixotic landscape of sweeping golden fields, rocky outcrops and a deep blue sky. Dominating the plains is a massive granite monolith deposited there by some long forgotten glacier, and around which flows a clear blue river. A jet black crack in its surface seems to open to a hidden world, but growing from these depths is a fruit tree laden with pear and peach and apricot, its branches stretching towards the heavens.

Straw yellow with a golden hue. Mineral, waxy nose with subtle stone fruit and chalk. On the palate, rich and broad with precise acidity and freshness; structured and balanced, showing clear ageing potential.

Pairs well with…

…lobster bisque, rabbit in white wine, a truffle risotto, bacalhau à Gomes de Sá, or aged Serpa cheese with a glass poured slightly warmer than you’d expect.

About The Winemakers

The history of Herdade da Amada stretches back several centuries. Historical records from the 17th century show it was primarily an agricultural estate, with a vegetable garden and a watermill. The 19th century was especially significant, marked by the planting of mulberry trees to support silk farming in Portugal. Alongside this, the estate continued to cultivate orchards and vineyards. In 2018, Herdade da Amada was revitalized by the Marvanejo Family, who embraced its legacy by planting 14 hectares of vineyard, restoring the land’s noble agricultural heritage.

The Alentejo covers a large area and is characterized by its hot, dry summers and mild winters. The vineyards are planted on rolling hills and plains, and the soils are predominantly made up of granite, schist and limestone. Its wines are known for their full-bodied flavors and rich, earthy tones.
