It’s midnight in the Alentejo and the moon hangs low, casting silver light over dry stone walls. Beneath an old cork tree, a cello plays itself. A barefoot nymph, damp from a midnight swim, trips across the field, trailing a scent of violets, orange peel, crushed raspberries, eucalyptus and a flicker of balsamic. Elegant but not manicured, structured but sinuous, polished but not preening. Pair with flame-kissed duck breast, roasted beetroot, or a conversation that starts with “what if…” and ends at sunrise.

Deep ruby-violet. A very elegant nose with a varietal character, clean, fresh and balsamic, with fresh raspberry, orange peel and violets standing out, growing over time in the glass, in a perfect match with the barrel. A subtle attack, with all the delicacy added to a harmony of great amplitude throughout the tasting, with a polished structure and good unctuousness. In the finish, the floral and menthol notes, with a light, well-integrated background toast, leave us with a great and lasting sensation of pleasure.

From the classic roast lamb flavored with rosemary, to grilled rabbit with bold and exotic seasonings. Contrasting with a dessert where dark chocolate reigns supreme, or even with long-cured cheeses, these will also be palate-soothing experiences.

About The Winemakers

The history of Herdade da Amada stretches back several centuries. Historical records from the 17th century show it was primarily an agricultural estate, with a vegetable garden and a watermill. The 19th century was especially significant, marked by the planting of mulberry trees to support silk farming in Portugal. Alongside this, the estate continued to cultivate orchards and vineyards. In 2018, Herdade da Amada was revitalized by the Marvanejo Family, who embraced its legacy by planting 14 hectares of vineyard, restoring the land’s noble agricultural heritage.

The Alentejo covers a large area and is characterized by its hot, dry summers and mild winters. The vineyards are planted on rolling hills and plains, and the soils are predominantly made up of granite, schist and limestone. Its wines are known for their full-bodied flavors and rich, earthy tones.
