What The Fellas Say

Like walking through a time warp wrapped in a dusty cloak of orange blossoms and wild flowers. This is old vine, clay pot sorcery. A single sip sends you back in time to a world of amphorae and togas and vestal virgins – it’s earthy and spicey and fresh.

What The Sommelier Says

Deep golden to amber colour, the nose shows floral, citrus and herbal notes with hints of dried citrus peel and a faint earthy tone. On the palate, medium-bodied and textural, with light tannic grip and fresh acidity. The finish is savoury, persistent and slightly spiced.

Pairs well with…

…roast chicken, pork dishes and autumn vegetable plates; soft cheeses, charcuterie and richer fish preparations.

About The Winemakers

Folias de Baco is the Douro project founded in 2007 by Tiago Sampaio, grandson of grape growers from the region. After studying agricultural engineering in Portugal and completing doctoral studies in viticulture and enology in Oregon, he returned to the Douro to work with his family’s old vineyards. The estate farms steep schist and granite slopes at around 500-700 metres and focuses on sustainable viticulture and low-intervention wines from indigenous varieties.

Region: Douro

The wines of the Douro Valley are known for their depth, complexity, and aging potential. The soil is predominantly schist, a type of metamorphic rock that retains heat and helps to ripen the grapes. The region’s unique terroir, combined with the use of indigenous grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques, create wines that are rich, complex, and full of character.
