The Enthusiast - June 2025
Yeehaw, it’s almost officially summer! Let the good times roll and the wine flow!!! It’s time for some Alvarinho, some good bbq friendly reds and maybe a new swim suit and sun hat.
As always, wine descriptions below, and if you run out, you can order more from The Cellar.
Don’t forget, you can look up past boxes in The Archive.
Casa da Atela, Pinot Rosé
[grape/vintage] Pinot Noir / 2022
[region] Lisboa
This Pinot Noir rosé is a total surprise. To the winemaker, we say, “Bravo!” and pour ourselves another glass. It teases your nose with strawberry and watermelon and spices, like summer time coming through the windows of an old library, then tickles your tongue with delicate fruit, bright acidity and layers of dusty, dirty tannins.
Pairs well with a sweet cataplana full of chunky fish and seafood, game meat, or can simply be enjoyed as an aperitif before a meal.
Check it out in The Cellar.
Camaleão, Alvarinho
[grape/vintage] Alvarinho / 2024
[region] VinhoVerde
It’s like Springtime dancing across the earth in her shimmering dress made of spider webs and rainbows and flower petals. Bright and vivacious, she banishes the winter winds, and fills the air with honeysuckle and bees and the promise of lavender.
Pairs well with a fresh grilled fish with a squeeze of lemon and drizzle of olive oil, Setubal oysters or unagi sashimi, a lemon-herb chicken or a frisée salad with fresh warmed goat cheese.
Check it out in The Cellar.
Adega Pinhel, Solares
[grape/vintage] Aragonês, Marufo, Touriga Nacional e Touriga Franca / 2021
[region] Beira Interior
Thick and juicy and a wee bit spicy. Like a pork chop off the grill dripping in umami this wine is like a swimming pool of gorgeous red fruits and cherries and peppers that will make you want to dive in head first. Toughened up on the high slopes of Beira Interior, these grapes have character and volume and depth.
Pairs well with a cabrito asado, a nice salty Calamares, earthy mushroom or smoky eggplant dishes, or dark chocolate desserts.
Check it out in The Cellar.
