What The Fellas Say
Ilha do Pico, “Terras de Lava” Merlot
Açores, Ilha do Pico
This Merlot is subtle, deep and light all at the same time, perfectly balancing this classic French grape with the rugged landscape and ocean winds of the volcanic island it calls home. Savor it on your palate. Drink in those hints of sulphur and smoke and fire. Hear the waves crashing on the rocky shore and the Atlantic winds blowing across the wild grasses.
Pairs well with white or red meats, mature cheeses, or break the rules and surprise yourself by pairing with a citrus fish or ceviche.
This wine has groove. It’s got a deep bass line of Baga with Touriga Nacional on drums. It’s as smooth as Barry White Wine and about as funky. Play it as accompaniment to a late summer bbq or a deep winter dinner party.
Pairs well with grilled prime red meats like a juicy picanha or t-bone, or a hearty game stew.
A masquerade. A ruse. A white wine from Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz grapes. The winemaker is having us on, teasing us with a liquid almost as clear as water yet with a nose of canteloupe and strawberry, and surprising texture and balance and a deep long finish. Only 4,000 bottles of this limited edition ‘blanc de noir’ were produced. Get it while you can!.
Pair with a a fatty fish, clams swimming in butter white wine broth, or a hearty veggie soup.
