What The Fellas Say

This wine is like some wild wood sprite slipping through the trees, half-seen, half-imagined. It’s not polished or perfumed; it’s primal which makes sense given it came into this world tangled up between the Atlantic winds and the mossy north slopes of the Serra de Sintra. Pure and essential and a bit untamed. It’s got nose of damp earth, crushed herbs and bell pepper and a lean, textured palate, humming with energy. Fresh citrus and saline edges mingle with something deeper—like licking rain off a granite boulder or catching the scent of resin in a storm.

What The Sommelier Says

A greenish-citrus color with a bright, brilliant clarity and a moderately persistent tear. A noticeably intense aroma with fresh vegetal notes. On the palate, dry with lively acidity and good alcohol, medium-bodied and elegant, dry tannins. Nice long well-balanced finish with good intensity.

Pairs well with…

…anything on the lighter side of happy – a grilled fish, roast quail, veggie stir-fry.

About The Winemakers

The Osório de Vasconcelos Jardim Gonçalves family arrived in Colares guided by generations of winemaking heritage from the valleys and hills of Távora-Varosa and cliffs and sea air of Madeira. They planted the first vineyard in the late 1990s, among the lush gardens of Quinta da Azenha with its unique microclimate influenced by the Serra de Sintra and the proximity of the Atlantic. Starting with two classic French grapes – Merlot and Pinot Noir – the first wines were for family and friends but the quality and unique character of the wines inspired the family to present the first wines for the public in 2017. Since then, they have added small plots of Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling, along with the unique DOC Colares grapes of Ramisco and Malvasia.
