What The Fellas Say

Tinto Cão, literaly “Red Dog”. More like Red Wolf. Rare, elusive and wild. The grape is a mean old sucker who doesn’t give up much. But what it does reveal is worth the patience. We’re talking serious quality not quantity. Winemaker, Pedro Martin, prioritising acidity over extraction, started with 5,000 litres of juice and finessed 900 bottles (for you math-challenged, that means a loss of 4,225 litres) of smooth, deep, complicated flavour, as tensly coiled as a startled rattlesnake and just as full of bite.

What The Sommelier Says

Color: Medium-deep to light ruby with bluish hues. Nose: With notes of evolution, iodine, and dried fruits. Very mineral and explosive. Palate: Intense, dense, and fresh. Saline notes, scraped stone, ripe fruit, and dried fruits dominate, giving it a mysterious tone. Well-defined acidity, complex, and very lively on the palate.

Pairs well with…

Excellent with duck breast, roast pork, grilled tuna, or dishes featuring mushrooms and herbs.

Region: Douro

Region: Douro

The wines of the Douro Valley are known for their depth, complexity, and aging potential. The soil is predominantly schist, a type of metamorphic rock that retains heat and helps to ripen the grapes. The region’s unique terroir, combined with the use of indigenous grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques, create wines that are rich, complex, and full of character.
